Shoes!

Posted by: notsosuite on: September 10, 2009

Do I need more shoes? Ummmm no. But shoes are not a WANT they’re NEED. At any given time in life you can be thrown into a multitude of insane situations and if the world around me is caving in atleast I can have on a nice pair of shoes, right? Right! (don’t judge hmph!) I’ve been trying to do this whole shopping on a budget thing. It’s kind of hard but I woke up one day and decided I wanted to own a house before my 26th birthday! Pretty insane right? (I’m 22 btw) I have been on the hunt for  budget friendly shoes under $50 and a few things have caught my eye.

I fell in love with these while browsing through the October issue of Lucky Mag. I am in love! You can bet that these babies will be making a home in closet very soon, for $40 these are a steal!

A cute twist on the classic mary jane. I found the perfect classic mary janes last fall at DSW it would be fun to own a pair with a bit more flair. ($29)

Though this post may not show it, I actually do not always wear black shoes. Not that this camel color is outrageous, but these boots look so comfy. It almost seems as if your feet will just melt into them. ($53)

These are gorgeous! I can picture wearing these with tights and mini dresses, skinny jeans, pants,  the possibilities are endless! ($69.50)

The bow alone is enought for me to purchase these! Plus I’ve been on the hunt for some camel colored pumps. The bow makes these a little less serious. ($36)

Sometimes words cannot explain why you love something. The zip details makes these unique and slightly remind me of the Giuseppe Zanotti zip embellished rose pumps.($28.50)

It was love at first click

I’ve been wanting a leather bomber for months! Which seems like eternity when you’re constantly looking for something. Suprisingly enough, it is not easy to find a leather bomber in the city during mid-summer. Who knew? But either way, I digress. I rarely go on the oldnavy site. Seriously. It is a rare occurence. So imagine my delight when I stumbled upon this lil beauty:

Pause for reaction. Would you expect this from oldnavy?! I’m happily suprised. My oldnavy card won’t know what hit it. But I am uber excited to add this lil gem to my closet sometime in the very near future. For a mere $199! This is a steal. Now if I only I can justify purchasing these:

For another $200. If there is a shoe god this will go on sale soon. A girl can dream, right?

Beauty Wishlist: LUSH

Posted by: notsosuite on: July 20, 2009

Yesterday I paid a visit to the LUSH store in the mall at Mohegan Sun (don’t judge, I went for the mall). I browsed through the store and tried a few products. I was first introduced to LUSH by daddy dearest, he would bring me these massive chunks of soap that he thought I would like. He was right and it was love at first scrub. I discovered these awesome shampoo bars at LUSH. Solid shampoo? Who knew? They would be Ahhhhh-mazing for travel, especially for me since bottles have a tendency to explode in my suit case. They also have solid conditioner. I only grabbed the solid shampoo bar for dry hair, Godiva. On the way home I was browsing through the catalog and found a few more items I am definitely going back for.

Tea Tree Toner Tabs

Lately my skin has no respect for me. I have no idea why but I thought we were getting along fairly well and then all of a sudden BOOM! I see many at-home facials in my future. I have a face steamer that has been neglected lately. Hopefully these tabs will stop the bickering.02799

There’a also an fresh face mask that I am dying to try. Unfortunately LUSH does not sell it on their website, that’s because it is kept in a fridge in their store (these masks really are fresh). Cosmetic Warrior is an  “anti-bacterial face mask to combat oil and spots”. Garlic, green grapes and honey are just some of the ingredients.

The excitement is building!

Do you Decay?

Posted by: notsosuite on: July 14, 2009

M.A.C. has always been my first love but I frequently cheat on them with Urban Decay. Some love paint pots as an eyeshadow base, I prefer (and pretty much swear by) primer potion. No creases on these lids BAY-BAY! Primer potion keeps my lids oil free and my eyeshadow bright plus everything glides over it super smooth. So imagine my delight when I realized UD now has a Complexion Primer Potion to wear under foundation? I predict a trip to sephora in the very near future.

It’s our Anniversary. . .

Posted by: notsosuite on: July 10, 2009

Errrr. . .not really. Nordstrom’s annual Anniversary sale begins on July 17th. While there are a few things I definitely want to check out, I’m very excited about the beauty sets. It’s no secret that I’ve had a love affair with M.A.C. for a long time (just ask my bf and his credit card. He will confirm.) Nordstrom has put together some exclusive sets just for their sale. Unfortunately I own most of the colors already (love nectar lustreglass has a special place in my heart I have 4 tubes currently in rotation. Don’t judge me!). I’m contemplating buying the box set for the bronzer and giving my best friend most of the goodies. I like buying her presents.

Wardrope Remix: Audrey Tatou

Posted by: notsosuite on: July 2, 2009

While browsing through the July issue of InStyle I fell in love with this outfit on Audrey Tatou. Look at it! I think it’s perfect for a date night or just drinks with the girls.

Of course I had to remix it for a curvy girl like myself:

I love this dress. If I could be locked inside of any department store it would be Nordstrom. They have the best selection of stuff in all sizes.

I like this clutch. It’s different from Audrey’s, I’m not a fan on fringe so this works for me. I also don’t mind mixing fabrics in an outfit.

Again not like Audrey’s but I like them. Plus they look (dare I say it?!) comfy. I have a shoe obsession. I know.

My skin and I tend to have a love/hate relationship. Mostly I love it and it hates me. Occasionally we put our bickering to the side but never for too long. In steps Organic Fiji Coconut massage oil (que the superhero music), I don’t know how to describe it. Liquid gold? Crack for your skin? Heaven sent? Call it what you want, but run, don’t walk (cheesy line) to your nearest health food store and pick it up. When I first started my journey to being healthy, NY Naturals became my bestfriend (Brooklyn!!! 6th Ave and Flatbush). I was talking about coconut oil with my mom in the store about  how I heard it was so good for your skin. Her response, (que trini accent) “We use to practically dip you in that when you were a little girl! I’ve been telling you about it for years. You neva’ listen.” Then it started. . .

A girl from two aisles over shouted over the racks, “It’s true! I use it in my hair and on my face.” She then proceeds to run over to our aisle to show me her scalp. It was hilarious. Slowly but surely about 3 other shoppers joined in on the discussion about how I should try this magical solution. They all had one thing in common, beautiful glowy skin. I was sold. I walked over to the cashier and asked his thoughts on this special potion. He said nothing, just smiled then proceeded to walk around to the front of the register and model his skin. My eyes kind of bugged out, not only was his skin glowing and not greasy (super important) but he was cute! I got my hopes up only to be told that it was sold out, and that a new shipment comes in every Tuesday at noon, but the oil usually sells out before 2pm. That Tuesday afternoon I drove over to the store (politely of course like all NYC drivers ::eye roll::) to see only two bottles left on the shelf, and it was not even 1 o’clock yet! I grabbed a bottle. Victory was mine. We’ve been in love ever since.

* apply onto body right out of the shower. While skin is still wet. Pat dry and let glow. Sit back and wait for compliments. They will come. Get it here. I picked mine up at NY Naturalsfor $16.

I don’t sweat. I shine.

Posted by: notsosuite on: June 29, 2009

I have been a bad bad baddddd blogger. Please accept my sincere apologies. I have a new hobby. Running (pause for reaction). I kind of been tip toeing it for quite some time. It was love at first run. My body was sore. My hair stuck to the side of my face, and I could barely run for more than 3mins at a time. I felt like death. It was awesome! I’m not too sure if I would consider myself a “runner”. I feel like I do not look like your typical runner. But then again, what is typical anymore? Lately I’ve been collecting running gear like it’s my job. Just like everything else the pickings are slim. But there are a few things I’m loving.

Athleta.com (part of the gap, oldnavy & BR crew) has some fun options that are available in plus sizes.

Running skirts look so cute. I think its possible to look cute while you shine =]. The dry wick fabrice makes it even more appealing. I hate when my clothes get soaked with my sweat. . .I mean shine.

at689483-01p01v01

I occasionally throw yoga into the mix. I am not the girl upfront with the itty bitty shorts, and while doing the downward facing dog I like too keep my booty covered. Shirts ride up, this does the trick.

at688974-02p01v01

I just simply think this shirt is cute, and i prefer sleeveless when working out. The more air on my body the better.

Oldnavy.com has some awesome picks too. These capri pants are super cute and comfy. Plus I love clothes that don’t necessarily look like I’ve been huffin and puffin for the past hour.

Figleaves.com has sports bras in all sizes. I wear a 38 G so I need all the help I can get when strapping those bad boys down.

Keep on shinin’!

I’m alive!

Posted by: notsosuite on: May 4, 2009

Sorry I’ve been so MIA. Why didn’t anyone tell me senior year is so busy?! Eh. It will officially be over next Monday and graduation is on the 16th. I still have yet to find a graduation dress. Feel free to help me =]. So on to bigger and better things. Have you ever heard of Dr. Bonner’s castile soap? It’s AMAZING! You can use it for almost anything. Traycee over at KISS (http://keepitsimplesista.blogspot.com/) has an amazing you tube video on how to make your own shampoo using Dr. Bonner’s. I have been using it as a face and body wash. I have oily skin so my face is loving this. It gets me squeaky clean without drying me out. There is no residue left on my skin at all. I also made a body scrub. It is by far my favorite and trust me I’ve used a lot!

Talya’s Body Scrub:

1/4cp Dr Bonner’s

juice of half a lemon (it helps fade dark spots)

1/2 cp of each brown and white sugar (brown sugar has larger grains to exfoliate white sugar buffs skin smooth)

Olive Oil (I eyeball this. It adds moisture to the skin)

Mix in a container and throw it in the fridge after using. The lemon juice can spoil. Plus cold body scrub on a hot day sounds good to me.

I picked up my bottle at a natural food store but I’m pretty sure I’ve seen them at Whole Foods in the city. Of course you can always go to  www.drbonner.com. Just google Dr. Bonner’s and you will find multiple uses, from laundry detergent to multi purpose cleaner. This is a recession. You better stretch your dollar.

Times are tight. If you have a job than your lucky stars. I have friends, who are recent college grads, that just got handed the infamous pink slip. Ouch. Do we not go to college for job security? Now a college education cannot even help you. It is, in fact, a hot mess. How are you cutting back? I have been trying to watch my pockets for a while and I’ve been pretty successful thus far. You will be surprised what you can learn when you do not have the money to pay the pros like you usually do. I have a few tips and tricks of my own, they work for me hopefully they will work for you.

* At home manicures and pedicures- I pay serious attention to detail so I believe I do a better job than most nail techs anyways (haha!). I may not be able to get all fancy with designs (I’m not a fan of nail art anyways), but I can file ‘em up and polish them quite nicely.=] My secret mani/pedi weapon: Just a minute 60 second manicure scrub. You can pick it up at any Bath and Body Works.

*Wash and set- Well honestly I cannot set my hair to save my life. But I can deep condition, blow dry and flat iron like no other! (ask my roomie. . .I do her hair every week lol) If you have the skill to take it a step further and do an at-home relaxer then more power to you. But I still go to the pros for that one. I use to get a wash, set, and blow-dry every week. By doing my own hair I now save myself $20 a week and my hair looks just as good!

*Write down everything- I know it sounds tedious but writing down every time I spend money (how much and where) has seriously helped me to figure where my money disappears to every month. Collecting receipts works just as well! I just cannot deal with all those little pieces of paper floating around in my purse.

*Read- Cash In the City is a wonderful book by Juliette Fairley. It has practical money saving tips. My copy has been passed around my circle of friends. Everyone loves it and you will too! How to be a Budget Fashionista by Kathryn Finney just arrived on my doorstep and so far so good. If you like her website then you will enjoy the book as well.

*Blogs- thebudgetfashionista.com and juicefairy.com. No explanation needed. Read and learn.
